DW Tutoring

If you or your child requires help with homework, assignments & exam preparation or just a confidence and motivation boost at school – I can help! As I was a student with disabilities myself, I have a great deal of empathy, compassion and patience for my students.

Benefits of private tutoring

Individual Attention

The classroom environment in schools and academia can occasionally cause students to fall through the cracks. Private tutoring allows for you or your child to be the sole focus. This enables the use of alternative teaching practices to provide students the time and attention that they need in order to succeed. However small group sessions can be organised on request.

Safety & Easy Access

I was awarded a Blue Card via the Queensland government’s Working with Children check. Much more than a police check, the blue card system also continuously keeps track of any disciplinary action and or any allegations etc. Tutoring can occur in the student’s home, library or even remotely. Whatever best supports the needs of the student, I am happy to accomodate.

Life Long Learning

I believe in equipping you or your children with the skills required to be able to learn for the rest of their lives! By instilling in them a method of analytical thinking, using fun and positive methods I believe they will be able to be independent thinkers and be high performers regardless of their chosen careers.

What previous students say

“David made the practical sessions enjoyable and engaging by not only teaching but talking to students and getting to know them. This overall approach made him a very good tutor, and someone I would recommend to other students if they had the opportunity of picking a tutor.”

“Very approachable so asking questions was easy”

“His ability comparisons to draw comparisons between scientific knowledge and popular culture.”

He gave good analogies

He tried to make the sessions interesting, and was helpful when we were confused about concepts or results.

“He played music which was entertaining”

“He had words/phrases of the day and while they didn’t directly relate to content, it made the lesson fun. He also joked around with students a lot and didn’t take himself too seriously (except when he needed to).”

“He is really helpful and professional.”

“This tutor made learning fun whereas other tutors I’ve had are more serious. As it was enjoyable my learning experience was a lot better.”

Was straight forward with what needed to be done most times. Laid back and didn’t make me feel pressured to know the answer right away.”

“Enthusiasm and analogies also making the labs engaging and funny”

“Was relaxed and explained what was going on in a simple way but also encouraged us to think for ourselves.”

“I liked that he tried to make sessions fun and it was very obvious that he enjoyed science and his field of research. He made sure he explained things to us while we were doing them so we knew what was happening in the prac. I did enjoy coming to pracs and felt like I learnt new content by attending the pracs.”

“His teaching was really interesting and engaging.”

“He gives many helps in the studying, we get skills to find results in the experiment. He helped us in very lively way, making the whole class fun.”

“General approach with energy made me want to participate and learn”

“He was mostly always readily available if we had any questions, and was always willing to help in answering them.”

“He was always there and it was very easy to approach him and ask questions.”

Q&A

Is anyone available to chat?

Hi, thank you for contacting me. Rest assured I have received your message and appreciate you reaching out. I will respond as soon as practical.

Can you provide your services online or remotely?

I am happy to provide online tutoring when face-to-face is not available/suitable.

What do you love most about tutoring?

I love seeing the excitement in my eyes reflected in that of my students when teaching them. Witnessing their increased confidence and motivation in a subject they once shied from, fuels my passion for tutoring.

Why should clients choose you?

I undertook adult education and university as a person with disabilities. I have a great deal of insight, empathy and compassion for students facing similar difficulties.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was frustrated with the rigidity of tutoring in certain academic spaces. For example being told I was “too enthusiastic” in my teaching. From my experience as a student, even in a subject I may not have liked, if my instructor/tutor was enthusiastic I was more likely to be engaged.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I am triple vaccinated and am happy to mask up for face-to-face tutoring if required. As a microbiologist I also have exceptional hand hygiene 😁

Still not Satisfied?

Why not set up a preliminary assessment for you or your child where they will interact with me in an environment of your choosing? For free*

I will spend up to an hour with the student, discussing their background, scholastic goals and social needs. This will provide both parties a feel for the tutor-student relationship and determine if we are a good match. Get in touch with me and we can help you or your child fulfil their potential by using DW Tutoring.
